This idea of the people at the top being idiots has always baffled me.

Everything we know about humans, animals, and the universe in general, says that those at the top should be the most fit to survive(which would be high intelligence, you would think).

In reality, I think the politicians are hand picked, because they aren't interested in having their own ideas. They want blank slates, with pretty faces, who can say things like "I want a cleaner planet", while pushing for massive Oil Pipelines(Trudeau comes to mind).

Or someone who could say something like "My administration will be the most Transparent in History", and then start the biggest war on WhistleBlowers in history.

Or someone who would go on a radiostation, and say that they "always have hotsauce", to court the black vote(using the assumption that black people vote primarily on whether or not the candidate likes hotsauce). Then, when asked if she was just saying that to pander, she replies "Well, is it working?"

It's these kinds of people, who are willing to smile and lie. Willing to change WHATEVER about themselves(whether its' their ideology, or their condiment preferences), to do the bidding of the people who pay to put them in power.

You don't have to be smart to be a politician. You have to be willing to do what you're told.

So, although the politicians(who hold little to no power) are stupid... the people who control the politicians are VERY cunny, and VERY competent, Machiavellian sociopaths. But, they think that sociopathy is actually how "enlightened" humans think. They think that the idea of Good, or Evil, or of National Borders are just figments of the poor, feeble-minded mass's imaginations. And they're not 100% wrong about that.
