Ruthless Robbie Lawler smiles after eating a shot from Johny Hendricks

Robbie is a wrestler too. It's always been a dumb argument to me, the wrestler who fell in love with his hands

these wrestlers wrestled heavily at the lower ranks because they had such a wrestling advantage that that would be stupid not to use it.

but at the highest levels, wrestling doesn't cut it anymore, people are either great wrestlers too, or have developed great TDD and get ups, thus making a wrestling based gameplan obsolete, because you'd gas yourself out and then get knocked out. (Chad Mendes vs Aldo 1)

so them changing to a kickboxing game is actually more beneficial, and wrestlers are generally thick strong people, so they can mostly punch hard or take a good shot, so that translates well, as well as their discipline and athleticism can help them develop that game faster.

also grinding on people doesn't pay the bills, and might irk a certain red headed goof that can't wait for you to lose to immediately cut you. (Jon Fitch)

Saying he's a "wrestler that fell in love with his hands" is so far from the truth and such a simple answer for a complicated meta development of an MMA fighter.
