It’s Been Two Years Since I've Had A Sip Of Alcohol. Here’s What I Want You To Know About Change.

The part about having to feel feelings is so accurate and I think it's what trips people up the most. Alcohol is good for numbing things and helping you forget your pain and problems for a little while. Problem is, if you never really confront and deal with your feelings, you will keep running back to the bottle every time you feel the slightest bit of pain. The alcohol just adds to it and makes it even more unbearable. Then what would have just been a little bit of sadness turns into full-on depression.

It kinda sucks, feeling pain, grief, sadness, and anger without the "help" of chemicals but it feels so much better if you do all the crying and ranting while you're sober.
