FGM is generally done in order to ensure what women never experience sexual pleasure to keep them from “straying” or actually enjoying sex for reasons other than reproduction. The effects are indeed this, and very often also result in nerve damage and lifelong pain.

This is false. It's done for various reasons, e.g. it's considered a religious obligation or even thought of as giving health and hygiene benefits. The idea that it's somehow generally done for this sexist reason isn't based on any real evidence.

Whether the effects are as bad as male circumcision depends on the type of female circumcision. It can be much worse, and it can be less.
