Let's be real though, if a pure breed ends up in a rescue something has probably give wrong in that dog's training and socialization process. People who are responsible enough to train their dog are going to find a new home for them themselves instead of dumping them at a rescue. If you're single and have no other pets that's fine, but I personally have cats, chickens, rabbits, and various young children that my dogs are exposed to. That requires a dog who is socialized to be non-aggressive from early puppyhood. It also requires a dog with a relatively low prey drive. I bought my dogs as puppies from responsible breeders who were breeding specifically for health and personality within the breed because I needed to make sure that all of the members of my household would be safe and face as little stress as possible.
