For what it's worth, dumbass, different mathematical tools are the foundations of different areas economic research. All of them rely on calculus and statistics/econometrics, but those are pre-requisites, not foundations. You learn calculus so you can try to learn measure theory and functional analysis for econ, and econometrics is just a word to keep econ students from being scared of stats as it gets more advanced.
