[S03E18] - 'Public Enemy' Post-Episode Discussion

The showrunners have a good core of traditional Green Arrow people represented now. They made the decision to have Ted Kord who became Ray Palmer for a calculated reason. Like you pointed out, super-heroes are all derivative. The showrunners had a humongous stable of potential characters to introduce, even if we limit it to wealthy characters because of the plot-twist that brought Ray in.

They chose him for a reason, and I posit that the reason was at least in part because they could have him be DC's TV Iron Man. I'm not saying the characters are similar, or that Palmer won't find a great way to characterize Ray as time goes on. I'm just saying that the suit design, and especially the way it was used in some of the early scenes introducing it, were done in a way that (here I'll try to be more generous in my interpretation) paid homage to the MCU's Iron Man.

Also, I don't exactly believe that if they had planned to have Superman on the show, but DC said they could only have Batman, and then the show had Batman flying around his parents' farm in Kansas at supersonic speeds, shooting lasers out of his eyes and having bullets bounce off him, that you would just shrug it off and say "Well the writers wanted Supes, so the powers and backstory don't exactly line up, but all hail Clark Kent the Batman."

You're right though, I am not an expert on all things Blue Beetle. You know more than me about Blue Beetle. I admit it. You've also clearly read more articles and interviews about the development of the show than I have. Kudos. I'm only half sarcastic here, I appreciate people with knowledge to share. Just don't be such a confrontational asshole about it. My original comment was just an angry hyperbolic rant directed at no one in particular which apparently resonated with much of the sub, while your responses quickly became personal attacks on me.

Why? Really? Why do that? Both of the people who disagreed with me and commented here turned it into a personal attack. I expect that when I wade into political subreddits, but the community here is usually pretty fun.
