I’m also on my second viewing- I actually think he killed his wife. If you look back at the episode where Theo got the box of diseased kittens- the one kitten left alive with the eyes- there’s a line where Hugh had to take the kitten out and kill it to protect her. Both parents told her that they gave it away and lied to her, since the lie would do less damage than the trauma of living with/dying by a diseased animal.

I think it’s possible that he lied to the kids, that Olivia didn’t die entirely when she had fallen- Hugh helped her succumb to her wounds, and then lied to the kids- also while lying to us- the viewers.

Is there a possibility that what we’ve seen in this show isn’t real?
