[S2E4]I can relate to Earn in this episode

Why is it only Earn that needs to suck it up? Why doesn't Van need to suck it up and make him feel included? God forbid he needs the rules of a game he's never played explained to him.

Anyone, I mean anyone who has dated sokmeone of different background has had to deal with different language.

I am dating someone from a different culture, and she goes out of her way to make me feel included because she fucking wants me to be. Van doesn't show that she wants Earn to be included. She wants him to just fit right in to his life. Fuck his discomfort, right? Fuck his feeling of being degraded when dudes try to rub his blackface off, right?

Van's behavior wasn't mature either. You want your SO to do something that makes them very uncomfortable? Show them that you're on their side and that you'll accommodate them as long as they try.

And Earn WAS trying. You say he put forth no effort. He was there. He put up with being degraded, with her flirting in front of him, with her refusing to explain the rules of the game to him. She showed no appreciation for that.

I've hung out with people like Van, they're not fun to be with because they're always treating other people's discomfort like a burden. I try not to hang with those people anymore. They are selfish.

And even further, let's remember the very last episode. Earn is sick of getting stunted on, and he expresses that to Van. Now she takes him somewhere where she's stunting on him and her friends are stunting on him and her. He wants her to be on his side. But she's clearly not.

Also, when you are a minority, you have developed skills to fit in or blend in as much as possible into uncomfortable situations.

Oh, so when you're a minority, you have to be able to fit in to uncomfortable situations? Fuck out of here. Minorities are allowed to feel uncomfortable and express that.
