[S5] Patience, by the Gods you all need patience.

Well the reason is because they use stuff from the book like that poorly sometimes. The Obara speech in the books is a lot more interesting because there is mention prior to meeting them that they exist and a little backstory. So meeting them then hearing a little backstory speech is neat. Show can only throw them in there and the speech is shoehorned in there to create the illusion of backstory. The kidnapping also is built up a lot more in the books as a plotline and when it fails so miserably its pretty huge because I think most expected it to work. Plus the missing character who pretty much leads the reader through that charge.

I am not complaining, personally. From the beginning I have viewed the show as a parallel reality to the book. The changes interest me and create a new story, a new world, and what I loved most about the books was the world-building. My opinion is, they already do so much different and have to condense so much that they shouldn't even use anything straight from the books. A lot of the impact is lost without the buildup, the previous mentions, the expectations. The deviations from the book aren't the best and aren't the worst, I would just rather them change more than just directly take from the book when so much is lost due to the medium.

Either way, I still am really enjoying this season a lot actually and I think they have some interesting things going on and I honestly don't even know if I have any real complaints about anything so far. Characters are growing and changing and I don't disagree with anything that has been included. Well, except Barristan.

Basically, the worst people who watch this show are the book readers that expect to see the book. It isn't going to happen, don't expect it, don't complain about it, they are definitively not the same and shouldn't be. Plus there is just too much source material to draw from. The more source material they use, the more source material they have to use. Yes, that sentence says what I want it to say.
