[S5E9] *Spoilers* The Unsullied

I should think that fit the kind of money they charged for unsullied soldiers, they were trained to use more than just spears in specific formations and specific battle scenarios. I just don't buy that.

Why? Soldiers aren't all competent duelists and fighters. The Unsullied are, because of their castration, weaker than even average men. Their strength comes from their discipline, their lack of fear and their numbed feeling of pain. Those attributes make them insanely strong on a battlefield. They will obey precise orders, have an unbreaking morale and fight until they die. As far as soldiers goes that is legendary in itself.

A chaotic attack with no instructions and none of their fellow Unsullied to support them? They are bound to be left to their most basic training, face forward and defend yourself. That's why most of them get their throat cut from behind, they have no training to look behind them. On a battlefield there would only be more Unsullied.

Their reputation of being great guards comes from their unquestioning loyalty and their lack of personality. You don't have to worry about them betraying or failing you. They function in exactly the way you expect them to.

Dany has no experience leading an army and Jorah and Barristan aren't exactly around anymore. And even they never led Unsullied.

You have to pay attention to Daario during the arena scene, he keeps yelling to ''protect your queen''. That's his futile attempt at organizing the Unsullied and getting them together so they can form some kind of formation. They simply aren't self sufficient.

Let's face it, the writers wrote this story in like this because the viewers have to see Dany as being more vulnerable to attack than she really would be. Otherwise, there's no drama in her story.

Agreed, D&D are pretty hit&miss when it comes to combat scenes either way, regardless of the writing. I was more annoyed with the Sons of the Harpy than the Unsullied though. Felt like a Jackie Chan movie at times.

Realistically, the Unsullied are not only much better warriors than a bunch of former slave owners who have never had to fight before, but more importantly -- her unsullied army greatly outnumbers the amount of Harpy's that we see on the screen.

Military education isn't cheap, it's not unlikely that some if not many of the nobles had some form of training towards fighting and commanding. They also have intricate knowledge of the fighting pits so it isn't unlikely that, even as brave amateurs, they would be able to take on Unsullied in larger numbers.

I really don't get where peoples disappointment comes from. Apart from the corridor scene that is mainly tragic because Barry got murdered by D&D the Unsullied do their part pretty well.
