[S6E9] Best episode so far?

I'm going to have to jump into the apparently rare side of not liking this episode much. It really made me hate Jon, a character who I have been really excited for in the past. Just to get it out of the way everything before the battle and everything after LF shows up was fan-fucking-tastic, but every step of the way I found myself wishing something else was about to happen.

It started right from the battle planning with Davos specifically warning they would need to be patient and Sansa telling Jon not to do what Ramsay wanted him to do. From the moment they showed Ramsay with a rope I was crossing my fingers that the very next scene was not going to be Rickon dying followed immediately by Jon suicide charging. To clarify I am fine with Jon being suicidal, maybe after his talk with Mel he wants to test shit and just move on to being dead. What I find frustrating though is he GAVE HIS LIFE to save the wildlings, he showed strong compassion to a group of people that he is now happily throwing away. It would make SOME sense if it was to save Rickon's life but he was already dead when the charge started. Man, fuck Jon for getting most of his troops killed because he is butthurt over something Sansa told him was going to happen.

Up next is his plot armor's ability to deflect arrows. I guess hundreds of archers firing a volley of arrows directly at you from a distance that Ramsay was able to land a fatal blow completely missing you makes sense. Oh wait, no, that is stupid and the kind of dumb hero story that Game of Thrones has avoided and is part of the appeal of the series.

The next point that made me sad was seeing the obvious direction the wall of corpses was going. From the first scene of Ramsay firing on his own men that showed a sizable number of corpses it was obvious it was eventually going to be a wall used against Jon. This part made me frustrated because I was crossing my fingers so hard that this was the opportunity for some of Ramsay's men to decide to ditch Ramsay since he was happily killing them off.

I did not care much for the surrounded from all sides scene either because apparently for no clear reason Jon's side was at the disadvantage at the top of the corpse pile. Even if there were Ramsay troops there I see no reason other than "it adds suspense" for them to have some advantage (I say they have an advantage based on the fact that all Jon's men that go up get insta-killed).

Finally is the fact that yet another battle ends with "rescued last second by friendly forces". I wouldn't even call it a twist because it was pretty clearly set up but I think a lot of us were hoping something more interesting would happen than LF saves the day.

Long live Dany though, dragons burning up armies and Tyrion being awesome will never get old.
