Sabarimala : Devotion Cannot Be Subjected To Gender Discrimination, SC Allows Women Entry By 4:1 Majority; Lone Woman In The Bench Dissents

This is an interesting yet highly polarizing judgement. On one hand, this sets the precedent for more gender equality in religion, but on the other I don't see this judgement changing anything. Even if the temple were to allow women in, I highly doubt any women will actually enter the temple due to deeply held religious beliefs. Based on the reactions I've seen to the SC verdict from several well educated women I know, I for one seriously doubt the verdict will change anything. Most of these women, due to deeply ingrained religious convictions will simply refuse to enter the temple. And we're not going to be able to make them enter forcibly. Let's also not forget that several devotees and organisations heckled the man who filed the request to the SC to examine the Vaults of The Padmanabhaswamy Temple, going so far as to blame him and the Government appointed team for any disasters/issues the state faced that year. I expect to see a similar reaction to this verdict as well.
