SaferYEG Initiative

I don't know if a thread on Reddit can truly get a good measure of how "safe" or "unsafe" Edmonton really is.

The idea of safety is rather ambiguous and what makes one person feel secure can be completely different than others.

I know some people who rank getting asked for change to be in the same league as getting physically assaulted.

I also know people who would say things like "I've been working at X and walk around with headphones on at 2 AM and have never had a problem, the city is completely safe."

From my own personal experience I wouldn't call the city safe but that doesn't mean I'm afraid of it either. I think these conversations should exist as well because there are certainly holes in the city's ability to protect people and ignoring them is a terrible thing to do.
