Safest (and cheap) area to rent on 120k? Job near James J Walker Park.

Idk if 90k after taxes is accurate. Where are you getting that number from? NYC has state and city taxes. I think you will be getting towards more of 80k. Does your wife have a job? Are you filing together or separately?

Also how old is your daughter? you should probably look into school districts before you look at just random areas.

There will be no way you can afford a 2BR for 2500 that will be big enough for (almost) 4 people in manhattan or even the closer parts of BK and Queens.

And also, no offense, but surviving on your salary for a family of 4 is going to be really really tight. Just you alone, if you were spending 2.5k on rent, and then another 1k on traveling costs, food, utilities, phone, etc. You would be spending close to 4k a month on just the basics. And that's for you alone. You have to feed your family, of 4(!!!), kids are growing which means childcare costs, clothes, activities, school shit, etc.. you will be living VERY frugally.

I know 120k sounds like a lot on paper, but for a family of 4, after taxes thats like 20k per person per year in the 2nd highest COL city in america... lol
