And in regards to police brutality in particular (/u/SubmitToSubscribe ), of course I think it's a problem that needs to be addressed. But what I have experienced in the past is that taking anything less than the most extreme position ends in myself being attacked as well, and I don't really want to be part of that. That's why I have personally stepped aside on that one, driven away by the people that I was trying to support. There are other challenges (global poverty, education, etc.) to devote my energy to that don't come with the same backlash.

And in regards to "overshooting the goal", at which point I'd actually be on the opposite side, I don't foresee that as a problem in BLM/police brutality in particular (the only conceivable way it could happen is the police getting so neutered that they themselves are at a lot more danger, but I think this is unlikely). I was thinking of that more in the context of other issues that are fought with identity politics, e.g. affirmative action in the workplace.
