Sanding and polishing stainless steel to mirror finish

In order, use 120 grit on a 4 1/2" grinder, preferably adhesive backed. Once surface imperfections have been worked out using a circular ever moving pattern, I usually trying to stay about 5 degrees off flat too the surface. Then its time for polishing. Edgelube brand of cutting wax for polishing. Heat control is the big factor, stainless' hardness goes up if you get it hot which will make your disks act like you hit a snag. 320 is next on a lower speed setting, again liberally lube, try not to burn there metal. 320 will get you a mirror finish, for the high shine its polish and what not but I don't usually go for a mirror finish at my work, just a food grade finish. >=32RA(micro inch), you can feel surface imperfections with your fingers, after a bit of practice at about 10-15RA which is biomedical finish.
