Santa Cruz County has one of the highest rates of child poverty in the state. 55k of our 276k population will use the food bank per month.

Even that would be an alright price compared to what some people want. I see people on nextdoor app, which is supposed to be about helping the immediate community you live in, and they want like $3200 for a two bedroom. Who has $1600 for one room and would still end up sharing your bathroom and kitchen?

Then half the people (who are born/raised here) say wtf is up with that price and go fuck off back to San Jose. Then the other half, who moved here from wherever anfew months ago and are renting out ONE of their multiple places, say ‘if you don’t like it move along’ and ‘things change.’

There’s just TOO MANY landlords there now, so the tide is changing to become even more friendly to them and less to the average person who was born here. They’re voting and speaking out in higher numbers now, it’s pretty ugly.
