Sarah Gilbert on how her team is making the Oxford coronavirus vaccine – and why we should be optimistic

Rabies is four 1 ml doses for post exposure, 3 for inoculation. That vaccine is resident for about a year, maybe up to 3 years. The time frame I quoted, the 3 - 6 month time frame is because the antibodies for COVID-19 are wearing off between 18 to 48 days. Not a year. Also, the proteins being studied are cell surface proteins and we know that COVID uses a harpoon system.

So the series will have to be repeated, assuming the vaccine is found safe. The current released data puts this in doubt considering the dosages was found to be harmful in one and in the Emory study they withheld data on people over 55.

Tetanus takes 10 years for example, so a month-ish is not a good sign.
