Sarah Huckabee Sanders claims Donald Trump won the popular vote by "overwhelming majority," when he lost by millions

we dont directly vote for our president. we vote for who we want and then whoever wins each state gets a weighted value of electoral college votes. whichever candidate with the majority of the electoral college votes wins the presidency. this leads to situations where a candidate can win the popular vote but lose the election. say there are 1000 total voters .if 900 of them live in texas and vote for the same candidate but the other 100 people, spread across the rest of the states vote for yhe other candidate, the camdidate who got 100 votes wins. ecause they win more of the state weighted values. this is what happened with trump (it wasnt that wide a margin, to make the point) and he and his administration keep saying they won the majority, making it sound like most people support him when this is not true. that it why sarah didnt directly say 'trump won the overwhelming majority of the popular vote' becaise he didnt. sorry for being longwinded.
