Sat Night Confessions: What's Your Biggest (Financial) Regret (to date)?

I've been really trying not to be hard on myself for past missteps in managing my finances, but there are definitely a few things I regret:

  • Not paying anything towards my master's degree student loan during my first year of my PhD because I technically didn't have to - and subsequently letting the interest build up
  • Splurging on luxury items (makeup/skincare, tech, pilates/personal training, vacations, designer bags/shoes/clothes) and giving pricey gifts earlier in my career. I could "afford" it (as in, I never carried any debt), but all that buying meant that I was generally neglecting building my savings and contributing to my retirement
  • Abusing my parents' credit cards as a teenager - Clueless was a bad influence!
