I mean, the British were effectively in control of a large section of India after Plassey. So not a lot of time for anyone to be developing anything when any next day you could be ousted. And India was not that technologically inferior really, like the Brits developed the Cosgrove rocket directly from Tipu Sultan's designs. The EIC were really good politicians and had a lot of resources. And what everything boils down to is that the British effectively looted an entire subcontinent for centuries and enriched their country on the backs of millions of people and inflicted irreparable damage to the cultural, economic and natural resources of the land.
