A few things. Saturn's magic square adds up to 666 on every side. It's sigil, traced from the magic square, is a slanted, incomplete hexagram extremely similar to the square and compass pattern of masonry.

Saturn rules Capricorn, the sea goat who is a form of the Sumerian Enki. In tarot, capricornus is The Devil, the illusion of matter holding two beastly humans captive to a black, oblong square or half cube.

The black monoliths, cubes, and rectangles are old symbols of Saturn. Kubrick originally wanted the final monolith of 2001 to be on Saturn, not Jupiter.

Mythological, Saturn is the father of both the Titans and the gods. He castrated his father Uranos, the sky or space itself, and became ruler of the whole of the cosmos. While Uranos was space, Saturn was known as Kronos in Greece, and was really an embodiment of time. Chronology ect. come from the same root as Chronos. Saturn both birthed and devoured the gods as time brings forth all things and absorbs again all things back through itself in due course.

In the tarot, Saturn itself is the last trump, The World or The Universe. It's secret title in the Golden Dawn, from which most magical thought (including Crowley, Fortune, Regardie and Case) today owes its genesis, was "The Great Being of the Night of Time". It is an androgynous being, nude, but always with its sexual organ concealed. Remember that last point as you read on.

In alchemy, Saturn was lead and therefore density and materiality and slow heaviness. It follows, then, that as one of the seven ancient planets, it corresponds, like Venus and the rest, to what was called in the east a chakra. In the case of Saturn, the chakra is the first, base center associated with ontological beingness and sexuality.

This is what those who adhere to the mysteries tell us. But if you think about it this tells us a huge amount. It is a very primordial force of existence which is both responsible for the imprisonment of spirit into matter, but also absolutely essential to the redemption of matter back to spirit. Thus the great occultist Paul F. Case wrote:

"He who truly knows the Self, who has freed himself from the bonds of delusion which make the ignorant mistakenly apply the term “self” to the limited, transitory personality, such an one has found the goal. They who find it are sometimes called Lords of the Secret of Saturn, for they understand why Saturn is said to have devoured his children"

This is just like the monolith of 2001, it was a timeless object that trapped intellect within the monkey at the beginning, and then showed man how to escape that body in the end. And what is that end, another collage of timelessness in which the astronaut ages beyond his years and is reborn as a babe at the conclusion. It is the herald of time as captor and redeemer of spirit. And like Saturn, the monolith eventually devours its child the astronaut as he begins 4d experience as a baby, a star child, beyond time. Or think of the Lego Movie, where the black monolith blots out the stars near the end of the climax. This is the last thing our protagonist sees before the world ends and he sees Will Farrell, or reality as it truly is, and goes back in time. Or think of the movie Waking Life. Which is yet another, more direct vision of the experience of non-linear time.

Now you might say these are just movies. Nay, these are myths. My point is that nothing has changed. Our myths today, regarding this Saturnian force, are the same as they were in Greece, the same as they have always been. And they are trying to make a point about the perceived nature of reality.

And we can learn many more of these points by this same process. How can this experience of non-linear time and the act of being devoured by Saturn come to pass? Remember the myth of alchemy, the transmutation of lead to gold. Lead is Saturn, as already mentioned. Sun is gold in alchemy. Remember what I said about the magic square of Saturn? Well the Sun has a magic square that sums to 666. Thinking this way is more literal than some make it out to be. Saturn, the base sex center, must devour his children. The gametes, the sex force, prana chi, ruach, kundalini, whatever, must be reabsorbed by that which created it- the base chakra, the inner Saturn. The sex force must be sent up the spine instead of down and through it in the act of ejaculation.

I'm not sure how much of this you follow, but if you have made it this far it is only fair to tell you that the rabbit hole goes much, much deeper, and if you really want to follow it, you have all the tools you need in the myths of men. Think again of the Hidden phallus of The World card, think of the missing phallus of Osiris, think of the mystery of the lost word. It goes on and on. But be careful. I think this is evil through and through. The sacrifice of sex gametes produced in the Saturn center of the body, its children if you will, as metaphors for psycho-psiological processes leads to the literal acting out of sacrificing actual children to Saturn. In the pageantry of sympathetic magic, offering actual children, the product of sex and the sex cells of the body part associated with Saturn, that mysterious, veiled principle, is used as a magical device for sacrificing the genetic material inside oneself. Not destroying it per se, but giving it to a "higher" force. Does killing children sound enlightened to you?
