Save money, care for others, strengthen our communities

I live in Norway and I have insurances as well.

I have insurance for my house, car, travel and my cat.

I have no insurance for health however.

This is because health, among many many other social benefits and safety nets, is covered through taxes.

What this does is create a society where you don’t have to worry about becoming financially destroyed if you have an accident or an illness befalls you or a loved one. Instead we have a population which is rated high pretty much every year on standards of living and happiness.

Additionally, and this is often overlooked, when health is covered through taxes you have a system that strives to keep the population healthy through actively having campaigns against smoking, banning alcohol commercials on TV, encouraging fitness and exercise and so forth.

And a healthy population is a more productive one. This is how we can have 25 days of paid vacation every single year and still get shit done at work.

Now you might say we have to pay so much in taxes we have nothing left to live on. Well, as mentioned I have a house, a car that was new in 2020, a pet and do traveling. And I don’t have a high end job with a huge salary or get paid big bonuses. I have a rather average pay.

So despite me paying 40% of my income in taxes I have a car, house (bought, not rented), pet and travel during my 25 days of paid vacation (oh did I mention we get paid even on holidays like Easter despite not working those days, yay unions!) and I have enough money still to buy, within limits of course, anything I need like food, new PC, games, go out and eat and whatever else.

Meanwhile in the US where you have destroyed your unions, where healthcare is a predatory business in bed with the insurance companies who are in bed with the companies to ensure they have a powergrip and leverage on you by threatening your health if you quit or lose your job, you have to hold down 2 or 3 jobs just to make rent and fold because your minimum wage has been stuck on stupid since 2009.

And you still are so blinded by the rich corporate propaganda that you actually defend having to be predated upon by healthcare, insurance and companies all at once.

Wake up and smell the damn coffee already.
