I hate anecdotes, but I am not using it to prove anything and it was asked for in the OP. It is pretty common to point out that AF with WM are not good looking for some reason.
It is weird, I consider myself to be quite the nationalist, but I am not the one saying this. I never say it, I don't care. It isn't just guys either. My AF friends, even my sister, has said this to me before. Every time I just nod slowly and say "hmm, I've heard that said before". I never go out of my way to fuel this sentiment, I don't even know why it comes to me in real life. All my posts on the subject is, that it is overblown and is sustained by hype, not statistics.
Story time, I have several. I remember in university, one of my friends (she was from the mainland, very rich) and I were waiting for the bus. It was just a casual chat so I don't remember the details, but I remember her telling me that "I think some white guys are good looking, but I prefer Chinese guys". I nodded slowly and said "Oh I see" LOL. Even at the time I don't know why she told me this. I don't go around in real life talking about interracial relationships at all. It might have something to do with the fact I was dating a white girl at the time, but that is probably overthinking because who I dated was never a prominent part of our friendship. She never talked to me about my gfs in uni, and I never talk to her about her relationships. We weren't that close.
I don't really care about other people, but for some reason pointing this out makes me look heartless. So when I am told this stuff, I agree awkwardly. Then I come online and read some weird shit about sellout AF, and I feel as if I should have given her a medal, thrown her a party or something.
This issue is so weird to me. As for seeing AMWF couples, I don't even need to count strangers. I grew up with interracial relationships in my family. My two uncles only ever brought white women over to family weekend get together dinners. My sister's bfs she brought home were HK Chinese, HK Chinese, Filipino, HK Chinese. At a funeral, I met, for the first time, some relative in his 30s. He was married to a white woman and had two cute kids. My first cousins are male, they have dated white girls before, I don't know who they are dating now though. There is WMAF relationship as well, I heard my 2nd cousin in the US got married to a white guy a few years ago. Then I heard a different 2nd cousin (who is half Chinese half Brazilian but comes for Ecuador) got married to a Chinese guy in Brazil or something.
