Saw this over in r/usmc, dudes trying to snag freebies on veterans day and don't even realize that the Marine Corps uniform they are wearing is not authorized for wear out in public.

So, let's clarify here. I did 8 years as a Reservist Navy Seabee but I am not a veteran.

A veteran is someone who has served in active duty status. You still get the uniform and whatever as a reservist. So technically, they would have the BDUs, etc and look as frumpy as they are without being veterans.

The thing is, you are not allowed to wear anything in public that has your rank, name or branch of service on it if your are not on duty. That's some serious shit.

I mean, honestly, they don't look like they are active duty. One of the things I noticed (and I could be wrong here, I served from the mid 90s to the early oughts so the uniform might have changed significantly since then, not just the camo pattern but the whole design of the BDUs) is that they don't have the ties that cinch around the ankles tied up. Those are there to make your pants baggy and hopefully break up your human shaped silhouette so that if you're hiding (as per the whole point of camouflage uniforms) an enemy would not easily spot you in the wild.

When I was in , if you didn't have those things cinched and tied you were due for an ass chewing.
