The more I watch it the more I enjoy it too but I think a lot of people's biggest gripes and a big reason why it's my least favorite book out of the 4 is how black and white Unavaatu was compared to the rest of the villains.

There was a rewrite by Razbuten I really enjoyed that takes a lot of what I did like about the book and makes it more cohesive instead of whip-lashing from spiritual balance to Varrick shenanigans to civil war to avatar origins to spirit world rescue to giant ocean energy battle.

It also has Amon's actions having lasting consequences going in to book 2 and while I know they ended it like that because they thought it was just going to be a miniseries I hated how Korra just got everything given back to her without her having to work for it at the end.
