I saw something very similar to what you describe, but my whole family saw it. My dad came home from work one evening, burst through the front door shouting at everyone to come outside quick. I asked what was going on and he said there's a UFO, so naturally I ran out onto the front lawn. My dad was pointing over the house towards the southern sky. We didn't see anything and my dad started describing what he had seen when suddenly over to our left a bright yellow light appears in the sky. It was pretty big, like about the size of a dime held out at arms length, but miles away hovering over the mountains. Then it faded away and reappeared multipile times in various parts of the sky. Then it started shooting around at insane speeds and making impossible directional changes. A couple more appeared and had similar behavior. It all lasted for 10 minutes or so before they faded away or shot out of sight. We all stood on the lawn awestruck for a while wondering what in the world they could have been. I never saw them again after that.
