[SC] Can my landlord sign me up for liability renter’s insurance on my behalf and without prior notice/consent?

I called it "liability renters insurance" because the email said "liability-only policy" while the itemized line on my rental bill said "renters insurance." I guess I combined the two incorrectly/awkwardly in my post.

It feels "shady" to me because I received no advanced notice or request for proof of insurance. I completely understand the why, but how they go about it rubs me the wrong way. Rather than sending an email that says, "Hey, we do not have a current copy of your insurance policy. Please send us proof by X date or we will charge you an $11," they signed me up for the policy and added it to my bill with barely enough time to dispute and rectify it.

Had I been someone who paid my bill by check and based on the amount listed on the paper copy, like some of my neighbors, of my bill (Mailed out before this policy went into affect and add to my rent), I would have unknowingly underpaid by $11 and likely been subject to additional, larger fees.
