Is it scaring anyone else how close all these elections are?

It's what happens when there's a two party system like the one we have here in the US. Like it or not, it will always be a little "close". The only way to fix our system would be to get rid of the two party system completely, get rid of legalized bribes like corporate PAC money, and mandating and regulating public TV, so they're not doing the bidding of the rich and only showing 2 candidates, who at the end of the day will always take care of their rich and privileged donators first. On top of that, people just need to be more informed and proactive. The change that we want, won't come overnight, change is always slow. Thankfully, the younger generations in America are also the most progressive, so change will definitely come, its just a matter of time. I know you're scared, and frankly, I am too. But this is not the time to cower, now we have to fight harder than ever to protect our rights. Get involved in local politics, go to protests, support local candidates you agree with for local positions, support grass roots organizations with your goals in mind, this change will have to come from the bottom up, do more, but most importantly, don't lose hope.
