I still don't know whether or not to watch the second season.
Among other things, I'm probably going to step on a few toes here, but the show was pushing its societal commentary too hard. I'm fine with women being badass and being the hero, but there were almost no respectable male characters to speak of. Lorca was evil, Saru whined that he wasn't captain and that Burnham is special, Staments was just high the entire time, Tyler broke down and quit, and Culber barely had any screen time before dying.
The scene with overly-pretentious Burnham reciting Alice in Wonderland was weird. Even Picard didn't recite Shakespeare when chased by Worf. Captain Killy was cute and I loved it, but I hated that Georgiou was the Emperor. Leaving the Emperor as some unseen power would have been so much better and Georgiou should have been an admiral. She was like Eric Cartman's "I do what I want" especially when she surrounded herself with extras just to show off the fidget spinner. Then there was the Klingons accepting their new queen based on almost nothing. She was the only Klingon that knew about her killer iPad app and the entire Klingon turned into p'tacks and called off the war that they were minutes away from winning.
So I don't dislike it because "women in muh star trek." It's because it feels like a upper tier fan fic where Burnham is the self insert with barely any flaws and girlz rule and boyz drool mostly just whine for various reasons... or die.
