Scheer furious that 200,000 Canadians making more off financial fraud than he is

Sure, that’s the case occasionally. You’re free to google my username, I work as an artist both commercially under a pen name and fine art under my real name. I’ve worked in many galleries, and worked for the most prominent framing and conservation company in my country and probably second only to Bark Frameworks in NY. So, I have a small idea what I’m talking about. Far from an expert though.

SOME art is price fixed to launder money, especially some historic art.

99% of it is expensive because people want it.

The overwhelming majority of art I worked with, from some of the most famous artists in history like Picasso, Van Gogh, etc., was in someone’s home because they want it to be there. They either like it, or they want people to think they do.

Take Emily Carr for example, easily one of the most famous Canadian artists ever. Her work sells in the 6-8 figure range.

Bryan Adams, the singer, owns a lot of it. Not to launder money. Because he likes it.

Jackson Pollack art, which I’ve worked with two examples of, which sells for up to 200 million dollars, was framed and installed in a home where it’s sat for 50 years.

Like anything, people abuse a system to launder finds, but don’t delude yourself into thinking it’s the majority, it absolutely is not. People love art and devote their money and lives to it because they love it. Don’t tar the 99% with the sneaky maneuvering of the 1% using art as a hedge fund.
