School Board Policy for Lunch in NC

Yep. The Community Eligibility Provision is the program most here are referring to. To qualify, your student population must be 40% or more "Directly Certified-Free". This means 40% or more of your population must be on SNAP (or in a few states, Medicaid-Free). the ISP is 1.6% so this means at 40%, you multiply be 1.6 and that's what you're reimbursed for -- 64% of your meals served.

Most districts even if they are at 40% can't afford to cover the remaining 36% of meals. So CEP program really isn't doable for most districts until they hit about 55% DC-Free.

So your local public needs to basically be 55% or more SNAP for these programs to be implemented.

It isn't about the schools not wanting to feed the kids for free. Believe me -- Having to distribute income applications and deal with the complete mess that is collecting money from families is a massive pain in the ass. Schools would do anything to be CEP.
