School board president: Everybody wants to take the side of the 'poor little woman'

There are good managers and bad managers right? The demand for good managers means they can ask for whatever it is they earn in some random scenario. It has nothing to do with fairness and everything to do with “How do we get you to stay here with us and go to our competitor?” Depending on the task the people they manage do, they may be easily replaced. Same with a ceo, you can be good or bad, and the stakes often being obscene amounts of money make it so you don’t want these people leaving to a competitor so if the board wants to pay a ceo whatever amount of money it is we wanna use as an example, they did that to make sure they stay with them and if they keep doing really good stuff for the company, they get bonuses. Managing a large amount of people isn’t something that takes no skill. Running a company or a giant company isn’t something that takes no skill. A line worker is more replaceable than a manager who knows how to optimize their workers to get the best work out of them, and keep people happy. I love my job, my bosses are fantastic and if someone asked me if they deserved a big raise (idk they would) I would say yes they deserve it!

I’ve seen plenty of bad teachers and plenty of incredible ones. I wish the good ones got paid more and the bad ones could be fired. But a lifetime guarantee of your job is going to mean you’re not going to make as much money as someone who doesn’t have a lifetime guarantee to keep their job. I remember a while ago reading about DC teachers getting paid like 90k or even breaking 10. BUT they aren’t tenured. So you have to be really good to keep your job now instead of having it guaranteed for life. And depending on where you live and teach means salaries aren’t static across the board. My grandpa was a teacher, loved by his students. He worked till he was forced to retire because of Alzheimer’s progression. He didn’t make good money, often worked multiple other jobs including the summers of course. But you know you have your job, you’re gonna get a pension and you have other benefits. Those aren’t gifts, it’s part of your pay. They’re also unionized so you can’t just forget that when you’re talking about salaries. There are going to be pros and cons to being a member of a union, I think anyone whose been a part of one would agree with that right? But If the super isn’t doing a good job and doesn’t deserve that raise, the board wouldn’t have approved it. If he was that bad, they wouldn’t give him a raise. They wouldn’t try to keep him there if he sucked. And if it’s the case he actually sucks at his job and idk he’s close friends with all the board members and that’s why he has his job AND gets nice bonuses, well then that’s a big but different problem. Hell, im sure lots of more qualified people with ambition and drive would love that position if a super wasn’t good st their job, no?

That’s my two cents on it, but I don’t wanna be a smartass though!
