Schumer Opposes Trump Plan To Privatize Air Traffic Control

If I were a member of NATCA I would be extremely nervous about what the future holds. That said, NATCA itself has been partly (albeit in a relatively small way) responsible for holding up parts of NextGen implementation, so they can shoulder some of the blame from their members if this does go through. I don't believe scaling will be an issue and in any case ops would continue pretty much as normal in the immediate future. This proposal is really just a moonshot to speed up various modernization and efficiency programs that have been stymied by various parties for years.

I'm not convinced it will actually help, but I can certainly understand and appreciate how we got to the point that we're even having the debate. My main concern is in the continued FAA oversight. Either the FAA continues with business as usual and progress on modernization grinds on at the same pace it always has, or they loosen control to be more akin to how they oversee airlines, which would be a very bad thing IMO.

Either way though I suspect this is a lame duck proposal.
