Sci-fi, long range communication?

Beyond all science was what they called the Dakkar-Com. Using a synthetic resonating crystal, that was able to transform waves not only to the 5th but even into the zone between the 5th and 6th dimension (the dakkar-semi-trail). There, distance was almost meaningless, so given that a suitable receiver was in place, dakkar-com messages could be received almost anywhere.

The problems was the creation of the 6d resonating crystal, particularly stable version that didn't lose the ability to transform energy to 5th and 6th dimension within hours. And the other problem was to supply this crystal with suitable energy to actually transmit the message. While the aliens from whom the humans had learned this technology could do it all in a hand-held device, humans needed building sized installations to send dakkar messages.

The technology never grew among the humans, both due to the difficulties to synthesize the crystals as well as the power supply problems. So they resorted to the hypercom, which could send messages in zero time over tenth of thousands of light years, but not millions as the dakkar com could.
