The science for climate change only feeds the denial: how do you beat that?

Yeah, the climate change high priests have decreed the science settled by circle jerk peer review. How dare anyone speak heresy against that. Yeah, that's condescension. How DARE I question any of it? The nerve. The gall. The Temerity!

Milankovitch cycles are celestially timed cycles. Celestially timed cycles have a regularity about them. Yet the ice ages didn't occur with that same regularity, did they? So, how can the orthodoxy say that THIS period is occurring "early" when the established pattern of ice ages is irregular to the tune of millions of years? How can they conclusively connect the two together at all?

Ice cores taken at ground level show co2 not being increased during previous warming cycles. Yet, here we are warming. Does that tell us that OUR co2 is making it happen, or that just maybe... CO2, manmade or otherwise, isn't the cause!

So sorry to waste your oh so valuable time, ya arrogant prick. Sorry for asking my piddly little questions when intellectual giants like yourself have the peer reviewed tablets directly from Mount NOAA. Apparently, it's the job of us plebes to bring you new and interesting arguments to entertain you. How dare we show up to discuss this without reading every available document on this subject and committing it to memory first?

So the original question of the thread was, "The science for climate change only feeds the denial: how do you beat that?"

Well, if you want to sell an idea, you might want to be nice, and maybe even helpful. Or juuust maybe completely not like blackcat. You don't get convinced to buy a car when the salesman says "HOW DARE YOU COME HERE NOT KNOWING THE FUEL ECONOMY OF A 2009 JEEP"

BUT, in order to make political change, you need to convince more people. Thus, the sales job is yours. And the people manning your booth at the trade show SUCK at getting your message across because they are too busy being jerks to be convincing. In fact, the negative message is POWERFUL.

Climate science is a complex thing. Not everyone has time to bone up. Just maybe they have questions that have already been answered. THAT is why scientific consensus isn't enough. Climate change means modifying all our lives and will cost trillions of dollars. Pardon us for asking a few fucking questions before we sign the check.

Here is how to beat "denialism":

  • Quit being a condescending jerk to anyone asking questions

  • "denier" lumps honest questioning into the "Heresy" category. Let's not insult potential customers, shall we?

  • If you see somebody acting like blackcat in a thread, remind him he's not helping the cause

  • answer the fucking questions. They took the time to ask, have enough courtesy to answer.
