Scientism is a religion and therefore, there are a lot of atheists who misidentify themselves as atheist.

Scientism is a religion

ok. That's not how I define religion, but you can define things however you want.

and therefore, there are a lot of atheists who misidentify themselves as atheist

Hmm. Tautologically speaking, this sentence refutes itself. If they are atheists (which was the premise of your sentence), then that wouldn't be misidentifying themselves, would it? So I shall assume you actually meant, "there are a lot of theists who misidentify themselves as atheists". Maybe you're right. I imagine you are trying to suggest science is their god. Maybe so. Is that bad? Why? You've made it very clear that your belief in science is not religious, but you haven't offered any reasons why others should align with you.

To be clear, I happen to agree with you. I think enthusiasm for any source of knowledge should be tempered because excessive exuberance tends to decay into dogmatism, and dogmatism inhibits learning. I think intellectual humility and learning are critically important for the well-being of society. I also tend to agree with the implied assertion that being religious about anything is generally negative. But what are your reasons?
