Scientists slam Donald Trump's environment chief over climate denial: 'It's like disputing gravity'

Airplanes are still not the right example. We did basic experiments in physics class to demonstrate parabolic motion for gravity. We didn't (but could have) built model planes that flew. We cannot build a climate model in a physics class, so it's much easier to dispute.

A better argument in favor of climate change is that weather forecasts have gotten much more accurate as the years have gone by. The climate and weather models aren't the same; but they're using number crunching computers to do very similar jobs.

The trouble with climate as opposed to weather is that the weather man gets trial-and-error every day to improve his models vs. the real world. Climate scientists are stuck with a handful of oportunties.

The fact that they keep adjusting the climate models doesn't mean they're bogus. The first modern weather models probably got adjusted dozens of times to reach the kind of accuracy we see today. The whole climate business just isn't amenable to a build-test-revise approach in a reasonable time. That's why it's disputable.
