Scott Walker: Doctors Should Lie To Pregnant Women To Prevent Abortions

Who the hell said anything about religion? You're making a bold claim for complete moral relativism in government policy which is a horrible idea as history shows us. Let's look at eugenics. Because modern religions (note no claims about "practices in the bronze age") have a focus on "human dignity" (at least when it broadly aligns with their morals) they get these questions right a lot of the time (there is a reason the Catholic Church for instance was a strong fairly isolated voice against the eugenics movement of the 20th century). We all agree eugenics is bad today so we can all agree that they were 100% correct to oppose eugenics even if you don't like the idea of opposing eugenics because of religiously derived morals. Simply put eugenics was opposed because of religion but like all modern political issues there are other secular reasons put forward.

There isn't anything arrogant about trying to protect innocent lives. if you honestly believe these are human persons dying inaction is not justified and skepticism should (imo) tend towards action rather than risking harm.

Just because I don't like something in particular, it does not give me the right to tell others to stop doing it.

i don't think you're committed to that view. Why should Douglas' relativism be favored over Lincoln's moral absolutism in the Lincoln douglas debates? It shouldn't and if you continue to hold that view you're going to fall prey to a billion strong counterexamples. The only way you can deny them is to establish a captial T truth that fetuses aren't human persons but say mentally challenged people, african americans, etc. are. That's fine and you should do that but it's an inconsistency. the moment you try to establish that is the moment you establish you're not commited to moral relativism and thus people believing otherwise are justified in their actions.

but anyways whatever your thoughts on abortion generally I categorically deny the idea that abortion is justified on sex selective grounds or grounds of mental disability as these are not fit grounds for claiming someone lacks moral standing. The revelation that the child a parent is carrying is going to be a woman should never tip the scales in favor of killing that fetus. These are very simple moral principals which i don't think are deniable even granting away fetal personhood. there is no moral problem with the statement i am 100% commited to the idea that sex selective abortion is morally wrong and ought not be commited and i think if you don't support moral relativism (which i'm guessing you really dont) you should be compelled to accept it anyways based on Truths about gender equality.
