Anakin being a selfish prick that’s way to horny and can’t work on discipline or tempering his anger is the reason why he fell. Mace not trusting him is not the reason why he fell, Mace was totally in the right for not trusting a emotionally unstable Jedi that’s extremely powerful in the force and is being pushed on them by a chancellor they suspect to be sinister. The Jedis biggest mistake was letting Anikan into the order in the first place, or at least Knighting him so early on in his development as a man and a Jedi. Anakin willingly broke the rules, got into a toxic relationship with another woman, decided not to leave the order, and then decided to doom the galaxy to oppression and fascism because he’s inherently a selfish person. Mace isn’t his counselor, it isn’t on him.
