How much time and money are you willing to devote to that. People get fucked over in life. It's part of life. You can't sue your way out of that....He'll have to lawyer up, that takes time and money. They'll have to build a case, that takes time and money. There will be continuances and court dates and guess what it's gonna take? Small claims would do nothing and a large settlement would go uncollected because she's insolvent.

Normally, lawsuits are about water damage to a house, etc, and your advice would be sound- "a lawsuit isn't worth it. You'll only get a teeny bit of money out of it at best, and sticking to it out of principle just makes you a stubborn fool. Just take your lumps and get on with your life".

In the case of extreme public defamation though, what's at stake is his life. His career depends on his public reputation, and forever more this case is going to be the first thing that pops up when people google his name. He desperately needs to make "Man wins defamation suit against false accuser" the last news story that gets written.

By now any prudent/rational person can weigh the facts that are already public record, and covered by numerous news outlets. She's a liar and a charlatan, plain and simple. Suing will not make that any more plain.

I'd be more inclined to agree with you if the school didn't burst out in applause when she graduated, and if she wasn't getting invited to speak at events about her struggle.

It's easy to say, "This is the hill to make your stand," when you're not the one doing the dying on the fucking hill.

Again, this isn't about "making a stand" out of stubborn principle. If there is even a shadow of doubt among prospective employers that even a fraction of these charges are true and that this guy is a bit of a creep -even a fraction- he is the one that dies on a fucking hill. He has his whole life to lose over this. The money and time and stress of clearing his name is the part where he gets "fucked over and that's life". If he fails to do that, he risks having no life to speak of.
