In search of an AC adapter for the dock. (Vietnam)

Both can be a problem, but certain docks have been revised to fix the problem, notably Best Buy's Insignia brand dock.

I took a risk on a portable Chinese dongle from Amazon a couple months ago. It was advertised as being compatible with my Galaxy S8 and my laptop's USB C port. The description explicitly said the bricking issue was resolved. The reviews agreed. It's worked excellently so far for me. The negative reviews were all for shipping errors, fraying wires, and the USB A port being annoying close to the HDMI port.

Meanwhile the USB C charging market is comparatively wide open. The charger that Nintendo ships communicates with the dock, a standard USB C charger won't have that adaption. A dock for the switch, even a 3rd party one at least attempts to behave like a Nintendo dock.

Plus, the charger is cheaper than the dock anyway. At least thats my perspective on the issue post 5.0. now that the bricking issue has been noticed, dock manufacturers have had time to plug the holes in their protocols
