Another great episode to kick start the show establishing things we will see later in the series as well as being another really well made adaption of the comics with good original modernization tweaks.
Things I really like:
-Early in the episode we see Felicia Hardy established as one of Peter's love interests where unlike canon we only knew her as a Black Cat. In the show we get to know Felicia a lot more in-depthly so by the time she becomes Black Cat we have an emotional attachment to the character.
-We see Spider-man make short work of some low level thugs whilst throwing some quips, gives us a good idea on where he is as a crime fighter.
-References to the broader Marvel Universe I.E mention of Gamma Rays and Human Torch/Fantastic Four
-"Spider-man!?!? Where!? Where!? Oh, I just get so flustered when I meet a celebrity! I don't know what to say!"
-Establishes Jameson's vendetta against Spider-man because of the murder of his wife as he hates people who hide behind masks. We see the nobility of Jameson's cause (although he is definitely in the wrong) and not just some hack editor at the Bugle.
-Faithful to the original story line with Jameson being behind Gargan's transformation into the Scorpion (and Jameson's goal/motivation behind it) as well as the rooftop battle sequences resembling that of how the canon fight went down.
- We also finally see Spider-man throw a punch (albeit it landed on Scorpions tail).
My nip picks:
-Action is generally pretty solid but during the rooftop fight Spider-man comes off as a bit sluggish in some scenes where he could've clearly moved out of the ways with his abilities.
-"I'd kill for the chance" Mac Gargan says the buzz world "kill" in this scene but throughout the series they sugar coat death/murder and avoid using it.
-Repetition of Scorpion's audio clips feels a bit annoying (Where he screams "AAAAARGGGH" all the time).
-Mac Gargan always whining about being riffed on feels so childish and unbelievable that a fully grown man (one who engages in criminal activity at that) is so sensitive about being called pathetic insults. We could probably meme the hell out of how lame it is.
Overall:
The episode was another great introductory episode that modernizes the classic Lee & Ditko story as well as connecting the dots a little bit with Spider-man lore for later with characters like Felicia Hardy being introduced (and mention of Mary Jane). The action sequences are generally solid and entertaining and we explore more of Peter Parker's life with mention about his studies and even wanting to go on dates with Felicia showing that Peter wants to find that balance. We see the early foundations of what will be the Earth's greatest hero.
