[Season 2] 4 Storytelling Lessons We Can Learn from the Giant Fuckup that was True Detective Season 2

This article is fucking stupid, if you couldn't already tell from the clickbait title.

Anyone looking for actual storytelling lessons, do not listen to this woman, she has no idea what she's on about.

  1. If you can't work out the time period or setting you are a complete moron.

  2. Wow, this article just gets worse and worse. First of all, a story doesn't need a moral at the end. The loose ends were all tied up, so I don't know what she's talking about here. Maybe she's upset there wasn't a happy ending, but the ending we got makes sense and works fine story wise.

  3. I know for a fact people did care about the characters, which suggests she wasn't actually paying attention to the show.

  4. I think she ran out of things to write about here because this is where the article ends (I guess her logic is 4 paragraphs is better than 3).

Do these people like each other? Hate each other? Want to screw each other? I honestly couldn’t tell right up to the point where Velcoro and Bezzerides jump in the sack together

She doesn't seem to understand that characters (Ani) can change their opinions on other characters (Ray) over time as they develop. That was one of the best things about this season, actually.

I know its easy to pick things apart and dig these little holes in everything and feel like you wrote something good, and maybe get a cheque (because if you didn't get paid for this why are you even doing it?). I get that. Every one else on the internet is doing it, why not join in? It's cookie-cutter, anyone can do it without much effort.

You know what's hard? Creating truly good and original art. It takes a lot to be able to do that, and I believe it to be one of the most beautiful things in life. There is a reason to do it. Season 2 isn't perfect, but it's still one of the best shows I've ever seen. Good critics know what they're actually talking about. They can see the real flaws in other people's art. Hacks who write clickbait shit like this need to stop for the good of us all.
