Seasons: Predictions [Possible Spoilers]

The thing I see get talked about the most is Rory's relationship endgame. I really think it's going to be Jess.

I just watched the show for the first time very recently, and as far as boyfriend during the relationship, I think I've decided Logan was the best and would have probably made the most sense if ASP had gotten to end the show the way she wanted. He wasn't always the best, but neither was Rory. They were growing together, and I think they could have been shown ending college and headed towards a future together. But the show didn't end that way, it's been eight years, and I think that changes the game story-wise. There's five real options: one of the original three guys, someone new, and no one.

As much as it may be realistic to have someone new, I think they'd have a hard time endearing an audience to someone new unless it was someone she'd already been with for awhile off screen, which we know isn't the case, I don't think that would really work. I also think they're unlikely to end Rory's story with her unambiguously single a second time. I know ASP didn't get to write it, but that's how it ended once and I think it'd feel weird to do it again.

Which, to me, leaves the three guys.

Dean makes no sense to me. His story feels like it ran its course. I'm happy we'll get to see him and what he is up to all these years later, though. I did like him, but I don't think there's really anywhere creatively to go with the two of them.

Logan I would totally accept, but I also feel like that story is over. I feel like their relationship ended at a tumultuous point in both of their lives, and they both went off to have successes separately. I think they were well suited for each other at the time, but I don't think, the way things were left, that they would have grown in the same way to still be suited for each other years and years later. I love love love Logan, and I am going to melt when I hear him call her Ace again. I just don't see it being a thing that could be picked up again, but I'd be happy to be proved wrong if it's done well. Plus, some of the casting spoilers seem like it may be him, but it's hard to tell from casting alone.

And then there's Jess. While I was watching the show, I HATED Jess. I hated him. The things he did felt so inexcusable to me, though I know if I'd watched for the first time as a teenager instead of as an adult, I would have been all over him. I can understand the motivations of a lot of the bad things Logan and Dean did, but I have a lot harder time with that with Jess. But one thing that felt impossible to deny was the chemistry the two of them had. The way that Rory and Jess got along was unlike her relationship with anyone else on that show. They always seemed to get each other in a way that she didn't seem to have in her relationship with other guys, but the immaturity and rash decisions made never allowed for that to flourish.

More than the other two guys, his story with Rory to me felt the most unfinished. The last time we saw them together, Rory showed up, started to kiss him, and basically just ran out, and we never heard from Jess again. That didn't feel like an ending the way the end of the story for Dean or Logan felt to me. Jess came in and out of Rory's life, and by the end, Jess almost seemed like maybe he could make it work but Rory was the one who wasn't in the right place.

I could very easily see a grown up Jess. Maybe he's written another book and learned how to have a healthy adult relationship. Rory's probably stabilized her career more by now and grown up a lot, too. I can picture the two of them being able to come back together more than I can with the others. It just feels like that's where the story should go. I never would have wanted her to end up with the Jess who showed up at her door and demanded that she run away with him into the night, but there is clearly something between them and it's something that might work once they both grew up.

I am, however, notoriously terrible at picking how stories will end, though. So I am probably very wrong. I've also only been done with the show for a week, so it's still all very fresh to me.
