Seattle inspector general calls for end to low-level traffic stops to avoid deadly outcomes

At the risk of sounding like an old man yelling at a cloud, West Seattle has been a hotbed for traffic violations over the past year. The bridge closure & general traffic back-ups have enabled drivers to use side streets as their personal state highways - rolling through stop signs, routinely going 15-20 mph over the speed limit. I've been down at Alki a few times the past couple of weeks and people are openly drinking in their cars with their tops down on Alki Ave. Every night near the Junction you can hear the street racers blowing out their exhausts.

Police obviously need reform & to stop bashing skulls, however the risk assessment here does not feel properly weighted at all. The probability of a traffic stop escalating into a police involved shooting is *rare*, while the actualized consequences of poor driving are an everyday occurrence. I am not in favor of acquiescing these changes to allow motor vehicle drivers to feel even more emboldened to disregard traffic laws. People need a reality check on operating a fast moving multi-ton hunk of metal, and police need to step up and do their part in enforcing laws without being total pieces of shit.

This is dangerous virtue signaling by the city.
