Second generation immigrants in interracial relationships how did your parents handle you telling them about your SO?

I can relate to this quite a fair bit.

I’m also South Asian with practicing Muslim parents. They would strongly prefer I marry a Pakistani Muslim woman, but thankfully because my dad went to school + worked in the states and I was an expat all my life ( Hong Kong, the Uk and 3 GUlf countries), they aren’t as dead set on the idea. They’ve also seen that non Muslims actually embody Muslim values far more than outwardly religious people, which swayed their opinion even more favourably to marrying outside my culture and religion. Works just as well because of all the women I’ve considered great potential partners, one was Scottish Canadian, one was Lebanese Maronite and one was Sicilian.

Why not ask him to convert just on paper? If he makes you happy, that’s what should matter most and I’m sure he’ll eventually come around
