Control of media, propaganda, and authoritarianism are not exclusive to either fascism or communism. History has shown that both the left and the right, when taken to extremes, can tend toward these things. We can also include corruption and intolerance of dissent and electoral fraud and obsession with militarism on those lists. They can both be very illiberal. But fascism and communism are VERY different governmentally. Just at a high-level analysis... one is control of the government by industry, and the other is control of industry by the government. Also, fascism definitionally contains all those aspects listed before, whereas communism can contain them but doesn’t necessarily.
