selected uk party leaders 'censored' in 'have i got news for you' opening sequence - why?

they all represent a constituency, as well as being in government.

I said a while ago that this is probably what we're going to move to.

the candidates are selected by the commission itself

There is one sent by each member state. The president then gives them a portfolio and they must be approved by the European Parliament.

This is democratic.

Often, they are ex-parliamentarians of European country's themselves, but still finding avenues to power within the EU

Experienced people. It would be better if they were put at the top of some party lists instead, but the way we have now is sufficiently democratic.

However, since the European Parliament can approve or disapprove a Commission, they can easily establish a convention that candidates for the Commission must be chosen from the pool of elected MEPs.

Some Commission President candidates were even advocating this last year.

We can't talk about that in the UK with our appointed House of Lords anyway.

Nigel Mandelsohn

Peter Mandelson?

Blair [...] ejected from their own democracies,

Blair resigned after winning three majorities. Does Blair work for the EU?

in positions they would never have found if put to public vote.

Debatable. You won't agree, I know, but if Blair was made leader of the Labour party he would win a fourth term.

Im honestly amazed at how strongly you support the EU, despite knowing so little about it. Why is that?

Who says I support it strongly? I just can't bear to see someone be so wrong about it. It functions in broadly the same way as any other parliamentary democracy and it only really has a deficit in media scrutiny applied to it - because of its inability to tax its citizens.

Give it the ability to tax its citizens. Then it will all fall into place.
